Discover the great history of Fostaland

There's a secluded island in the North Sea off the coast of the Netherlands that holds a remarkable history. The native people speak of pre-christian (Frisian) myths and rituals that stem from the dark ages and have survived in secret to this very day. Centuries ago the island wasn't known as Ameland, instead the people called it Fostaland, dedicated to the ancient god Fosta, son of Baldr, son of Odin. Most traces of evidence of this history have been destroyed by pirates and missionaries, but there are some that have survived the test of time. For example two villages are still known as 'Hollum' and 'Ballum'. Frisian villages are often named after important people, where 'um' means 'home of'. Therefore it is believed these villages are named after the ancient Frisian gods and brothers 'Holr' and 'Baldr'.
